Historic city of Safi installs 46 new Green Bee underground containers for mixed waste collection

The historic Moroccan city of Safi has just completed the installation of 46 Green Bee underground containers, a project developed and implemented in collaboration with ISOTEC Maroc, the local distributor for Lasso™ brand equipment. The installation of these new high-capacity units represents a significant contribution to modernizing the urban waste disposal infrastructure of this North African city.

Each container has a capacity of 5 m³ and is designated for general waste disposal. The units feature a foot pedal for hands-free opening, as well as a metal system with a double lifting eye and a safety platform, ensuring enhanced protection during maintenance and emptying operations.

Lasso™’s Green Bee underground waste collection containers allow for discreet integration into the urban landscape, reducing the visual impact of disposal points and contributing to a more organized and efficient use of public space—features of particular importance in a historic, tourist-oriented city.

Morocco commits to more efficient waste management

The implementation of this project is part of a broader effort to modernize urban waste management in the country. The Kingdom of Morocco has been developing national policies and programs aimed at improving waste collection, management, treatment, and recovery. The National Household Waste Management Program (PNDM) is one such example; more recently, the country has reinforced this strategy with the National Household Waste Recovery Program (PNVDM), which focuses on environmentally sustainable practices, including reducing landfill disposal and increasing waste recovery.

In this transformation process, the modernization of disposal and collection infrastructure—exemplified by this project featuring Lasso™ containers—is a fundamental component in making urban systems more efficient, functional, and tailored to the needs of cities.

An international partnership that continues to grow

For Lasso Eco Innovation, the Safi project also represents another step in consolidating its international presence, particularly within the Moroccan market.

Alenquer modernizes waste collection with 41 new Green Bee underground containers

The Municipality of Alenquer has just bolstered its urban waste collection infrastructure by installing 41 new Green Bee underground containers from Lasso™, demonstrating a commitment to modernizing equipment and improving waste disposal and collection conditions.

The new solution includes units designed for both mixed waste and selective waste collection, enabling an integrated response to the municipality’s diverse waste management needs.

The 41 installed containers include units for general waste, plastic/metal, paper/plastic, and glass, featuring technical solutions tailored to the nature of the waste:

  • Mixed waste: 5 m³ concrete vault and Masterbag, with leachate containment;
  • Plastic/metal: 5 m³ concrete vault and standard bag;
  • Paper/cardboard: 5 m³ concrete vault and standard bag;
  • Glass: 3 m³ concrete vault and reinforced bag.

This variety of configurations allows the solution to be adapted to the characteristics of each waste stream, ensuring high storage capacity and suitable conditions for collection operations.

A solution for a territory with a rich history

The installation of these units holds particular significance in a municipality like Alenquer, where the urban and heritage identity is intertwined with centuries of Portuguese history.

Of Arab origin, Alenquer was reconquered for the Christians by King Afonso Henriques in the 12th century during his offensive toward Lisbon. The town is known as the “Vila Presépio” (Nativity Scene Town) due to the harmonious way its houses are distributed along the hillside, creating a distinctive urban landscape. Preserving this historical and heritage identity goes hand in hand with the need to create urban spaces that are more functional, clean, and sustainable. It is within this balance of heritage, urban quality, and innovation that solutions like the Green Bee underground containers from Lasso™ prove their true value, demonstrating that innovation can serve the goal of creating more sustainable cities without compromising their identity.

Lasso at the 8th ENLU: three days to [re]shape the future of cities

Lasso Eco Innovation will be taking part in the 8th National Urban Cleaning Conference (ENLU), taking place from 8 to 10 September at the MIT Penha, in Guimarães — a city that, in 2026, holds the title of European Green Capital.

Organised by the Associação Limpeza Urbana – Parceria para Cidades + Inteligentes e Sustentáveis (ALU), in partnership with the Municipality of Guimarães, the 8th ENLU is part of the Guimarães European Green Capital 2026 programme and is centred around the theme “[Re]Shaping the Future”, inviting reflection on the challenges and opportunities facing cities and territories.

Over three days, the event will bring together experts, local authorities, academics, companies and professionals from the urban cleaning sector, providing a valuable forum for debate, knowledge sharing and the search for new solutions to make cities more sustainable, resilient and efficient.

Where innovation meets sustainability

For Lasso Eco Innovation, taking part in ENLU represents an opportunity to strengthen its close relationship with municipalities, operators and industry professionals, while sharing its vision of the role innovation can play in the evolution of urban waste management systems.

Contenur’s sales team visits Lasso’s facilities in Santo Tirso

In early July, Lasso Eco Innovation hosted a delegation from Contenur—the company’s partner and distributor for the French market—bringing together approximately 15 members of the Spanish company’s sales team at its manufacturing facilities in Portugal.

Throughout a day dedicated to sharing expertise and innovation, participants had the opportunity to gain deeper insight into the latest solutions developed by Lasso for urban waste collection. The program began in the afternoon with a presentation on new products currently under development, allowing the Contenur team to learn firsthand about the company’s innovation strategy.

The visit continued with practical demonstrations of the equipment’s features, as well as a presentation on the technologies integrated into Lasso’s underground and semi-underground waste container systems—including smart solutions that make the equipment more efficient, safe, and capable of addressing current urban waste management challenges.

The visit also provided an opportunity to strengthen the relationship between the two companies, which have been collaborating on various projects in the French market, contributing to the implementation of innovative and sustainable solutions across different municipalities and communities.

Lasso semi-underground containers installed in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence Region

The Lasso™ brand continues to consolidate its presence in the French market, this time through the DLVAgglo – Durance Luberon Verdon Agglomération project implemented by Contenur, its distributor in France. The project involves the installation of semi-underground containers for the selective collection of urban waste in the agglomeration of communities located in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department, in southeastern France.

This region is distinguished by its strong natural and landscape component, marked by rural areas, small communities and a high environmental value, integrating mountainous areas, valleys and touristic areas of great importance. This context requires waste management solutions that combine robustness, functionality and integration into the public space, criteria that are the basis for Lasso’s waste containerization solutions.

To date, approximately 130 semi-underground concrete containers with a capacity of 5 m³ have been supplied, intended for the collection of four waste streams: mixed waste, packaging, paper, and glass.

The applied coatings have varied between “Rolled Pebble” and “Recycled Plastic,” with an “Image Coating” already implemented in one of the recycling banks, a solution visible in the most recent installations. The installation of five containers in painted concrete in the color “Forge” for the community of Gréoux-les-Bains is also planned for a future delivery.

The modular HDPE lids maintained a consistent configuration throughout the various phases of the project. For the mixed waste stream, lids with a double drum and a lid adapted for large producers were used, while the remaining streams use “Façade” vertical opening lids, also with a lid adapted for large producers.

Ardèche region installs 150 Lasso semi-underground containers

Contenur, our partner in the French market, has completed the installation of 150 Lasso™ semi-underground containers in the territory of the Privas Centre Ardèche Community.

The project, which began a year ago, represents a milestone in the modernization of waste collection in this community, contributing to the improvement of citizens’ quality of life, the optimization of public services, and the promotion of more responsible environmental practices.

The new equipment allows for the selective collection of mixed waste, packaging, glass, and cardboard — the latter through specially adapted containers with a dedicated opening system.

Thanks to their versatility and landscape integration, Lasso semi-underground containers adapt harmoniously to different urban and natural contexts. The Privas Centre Ardèche region, which combines river, mountain, and city areas, exemplifies this integration capacity — ensuring efficient collection without compromising the aesthetics or environmental balance of public spaces.

The project is part of the long-term strategy of the Communauté d’Agglomération Privas Centre Ardèche, a territory strongly committed to ecological challenges and committed to the environmental and energy transition. Over the next three years, the initiative is planned to continue, with the aim of equipping the entire territory with this equipment.

As in previous years, Lasso Eco Innovation will be present at the 19th Waste Forum (Fórum de Resíduos), which takes place on November 17th and 18th at LNEC – National Laboratory of Civil Engineering, in Lisbon.

New autonomous system for Lasso hydraulic containers

Lasso, an international leader in underground and semi-underground containers, is taking another step toward making waste management smarter and more flexible. In addition to the already well-known hydraulic solutions that require an external power source, it is now introducing a new autonomous system for its Lasso hydraulic containers.

This new feature allows the container to operate completely independently, requiring only a local electrical connection, without the need for a truck with a hydraulic system. This is a particularly attractive solution for those who do not have a contract with an operator who has hydraulic lifting equipment.

Why this solution?

  • Operational autonomy: the container now has a hydraulic unit that allows lifting and lowering with a simple button — perfect when the collection truck does not have a hydraulic system or cannot access the location (e.g., very narrow streets, condominiums, indoor parks, etc).
  • Compatibility and flexibility: it maintains the ability to connect to an external hydraulic source (such as the collection truck) via a quick-connect coupling, allowing you to always use the most convenient source.
  • Simple installation: only a local electrical connection is required to ensure operational autonomy.

In practice, this ensures a range of benefits for customers, including improved collection frequency and reliability in hard-to-reach areas, as well as reduced reliance on dedicated vehicles on site. The advantage also lies in its flexibility, as it maintains the ability to operate with an external source whenever convenient (for example, for scheduled truck collections).

Lasso Eco Innovation will be present at the next edition of Pollutec, the largest international trade show dedicated to environmental solutions, taking place from October 7th to 10th in Lyon, France.

Among the innovations that the brand will be showcasing is the Lasso SEMI DUO, a semi-underground, two-compartment container designed for the selective collection of two urban waste streams, specifically for mixed waste and biowaste.

Another world premiere will be the new square-shaped floor cover for underground containers, which complements Lasso’s offering for this component and was developed in response to requests from various communities seeking a more functional solution adapted to their needs.
