Another municipality in Portugal selected the “Image Finishing” for the requalification and renewal of its Lasso semi-underground containers. This time, it was the Municipality of Sintra that, in order to requalify some equipment that was already degraded outside, used this type of coating to communicate with its residents. “Doing better for sustainability and reducing waste” and “What doesn’t end here ends up at sea” are some of the messages conveyed by the municipality of Sintra through the now renovated containers.

In August this year, eight recycling banks were intervened, in a total of 32 semi-underground containers, with the new coating solution, in the area of Portela de Sintra. In the Praia Grande area, two new recycling banks were installed, with eight semi-underground containers with “Image Finishing”.

“We chose to use this type of coating because it has two great advantages – it renews the image of the containers and constitutes an effective communication media. In this case, we have chosen to convey messages about sustainability and protection of the environment, together with the rules for the disposal of waste and indications on how to separate waste and what can be recycled. We are certain that this action will contribute to increase our recycling rate ”, stresses Carlos Vieira, Managing Director of Municipal Services for Water and Sanitation in Sintra.

The “Image Finishing” is a type of coating that consists of digital images printed in large format, on vinyl, transforming Lasso semi-underground containers into an innovative customizable communication support.

“We have had an excellent acceptance of “Image Finishing” from our customers, because it allows them to fulfill two objectives: that of remodeling their older equipment, some over 20 years old, and that of communicating with users clearly and directly. It is a coating solution that does not require a large investment and that lasts for a long time”, says Maria João Ferreira, Lasso’s commercial director for the national market. In addition to Sintra, other municipalities are already using Lasso semi-underground containers as a means of communication with great success, such as Barreiro, Castro Marim, Guimarães, Ílhavo, Nazaré, Penafiel, Vila do Conde and Vilamoura.

In the municipality of Matosinhos, there is an ongoing investment in Lasso full underground containers to replace the old waste collection equipment in the municipality. The selected model is the Green Bee which, with a modern aesthetic and large storage capacity, offers the ideal solution for the urban landscape while contributing to the reduction of operating costs.

The Green Bee has an additional feature that makes this equipment even more suitable in the case of this municipality, which has a vast area located by the sea. In fact, the Green Bee frame is made of AISI 316 stainless steel, a material with an excellent anti-corrosion behavior, which is of particular importance for containers located on the seafront, as is the case of all those installed on the marginal avenue of Leça da Palmeira, for example.

After the first Green Bee recycling bank installed in 2019 on Avenida da República (the main city avenue) two new recycling banks were installed in Leça da Palmeira in January 2020. Last June the second phase of this project started, with the installation of 14 more recycling banks in various locations in the municipality, in a total of 57 more full underground Green Bee containers.

“Since our foundation, the municipality of Matosinhos has trusted our equipment and our sustainable and economical solutions for waste collection. In view of the good results over the years, the municipality is now moving towards the modern Green Bee container, which is perfectly adaptable to the surrounding space and to the needs of residents, namely in terms of the offer of places for selective collection ”, explains Pedro Martins da Costa, Lasso’s CEO.
